Major Research Areas
Clinical research:
New radiotherapy techniques including the use of 3-dimensional computer planning systems; stereotactic radiotherapy and conformal radiotherapy; nasopharyngeal carcinoma, especially its relationship with the Epstein Barr virus; multimodality treatment aimed at improving control and minimizing side effects; multimodality treatment of gonadal and extragonadal germ cell tumours, colorectal, oesophagral cancer, breast cancer, and thyroid cancer, and elucidation of related prognostic factors.
Identification of cancer-related genes:
Elucidation of the tumorigenesis process in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC), colorectal cancer, esophageal cancer, ovarian cancer, and lung cancer, through characterization of isolated oncogenes or tumour suppressor genes with recently-developed techniques such as comparative genomic hybridization (CGH), tissue microarray, genomic DNA microarray, multi-color fluorescence in situ hybridization (mFISH), proteomics, chromosome microdissection, and cDNA subtraction.
