Rule of the compatibility of prescription in Chinese medicines:
The rule of compatibility of Chinese herb (medicines) is an important subject in Chinese medicine. This research related to theory and experiment in the prescription of Chinese medicine for ischemia heart disease, female cancer and hepatic diseases. The analysis will be conducted mainly from the perspectives of phytochemistry and pharmacology.
Mechanisms of extracts of Chinese herb in protecting cardio myocytes from hypoxia-reoxygenation injury:
To examine and assess the mechanisms and benefits of Chinese herbs in myocardial ischemia. Pharmacology, molecular biology and chemical analysis will be dealt with in this research.

Internal Chinese medicine and clinical Chinese Materia Medica:
From the perspectives of traditional Chinese medicine and biomedicine
as well as science, the research will concentrate on clinical trail
and experimental study for hard-to-cure diseases, such as cancer,
hepatic diseases, and renal diseases by using recently developed techniques
in molecular biology and immunology.
Pharmacology and toxicology of Chinese medicines:
Research will focus on the following topics: Pharmacological action and its mechanism of Chinese medicines; pharmacological screening and safety evaluation of Chinese medicines; methodology of Chinese medicines research and multiple disciplinary researches of TCM; Standardization and quality control of Chinese medicines.

Cultural studies on Chinese medicine:
To study the origin, forming and development of Chinese medicine from the cultural perspective; to compare and analyze the similarities and differences of the culture of Chinese and Western medicine; and to give a cultural interpretation for the development of Chinese medicine in the future.
Literature Studies on Chinese medicine:
To systematize the ancient literature on Chinese medicine, and to study and determine the status of such medical literature as well as related practitioners at the history of Chinese medicine development, so as to work out an textual criticism edition to facilitate future study and research in Chinese medicine.
Study on the effectiveness of acupuncture at different time:
To study on the effectiveness of acupuncture and moxibustion at different points at different time on different index of different objects, and t o go further into the principles governing acupuncture and moxibustion.

Clinical trials and experimental study on the efficacy and the mechanisms of Chinese medicine in prevention and treatment of ischemic stroke and diabetes:
Ischemic stroke and diabetes are aging-related diseases. The study will develop multidisciplinary approaches to evaluate the efficacy and potential mechanisms of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) on prevention and treatment of ischemic stroke and type 2 diabetics, including quality control studies of TCM, medical diagnostic imaging studies, and biochemistry and molecular biology studies. The major research direction will focus on the effects of TCM against oxidative stress in ischemic stroke and type 2 diabetics.

Therapeutic effects of Chinese medicine and mechanisms of their actions on premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD):
PMDD is an extreme form of premenstrual syndrome which affects approximately 75% of women worldwide. A large number of Chinese medicines and formulae are claimed to have the potentials for alleviating symptoms associated with PMDD. The objective of the proposed project is to identify Chinese herbs and their constituents that may possess effects in reducing PMDD-like behavior in animal models and determine biochemical, cellular, and molecular mechanisms of their actions.
