Haematology:
Major research area is understanding cellular and molecular pathways mediating haemopoieitic stem cell renewal, proliferation and differentiation. Experimental approaches include cloning of chromosomal breakpoints of haemopoieitic malignancies, cellular localisation studies, microarray analysis, gene targetting of embryonic stem cells and mouse models of human leukaemias.

Immunology:
Dendritic cells & immune regulation in immunity & autoimmunity. We study the mechanisms of immune regulation in health and in disease, with a particular emphasis on the roles of dendritic cells (DC) in immunity and autoimmunity. Our current research topics include:

  1. DC & immune regulation in systemic lupus erythematosus;
  2. Functional conditioning of dendritic cells for DC-based tumor vaccine;
  3. DC & T regulatory cells;
  4. DC & cell death;
  5. DC heterogeneity & functional diversity.

Lymphocyte development and its dysregulation in autoimmune disease.

We are interested in studying lymphocyte development and its dysregulation during the pathogenesis of autoimmune disease. Using an animal model for human rheumatoid arthritis, we are developing novel strategies for targeting TNF family cytokines in treating autoimmune arthritis.
