Orthopaedic biomechanics:

Molecular and cell biology :
Experimental scoliosis and surgical treatment without fusion in primates; role of the pineal gland in the causation of scoliosis; genetic mutations in degenerative lumbar disc disease; neurotropism and neurotrophism in peripheral nerves; molecular basis of bone healing and fracture repair; gene mutations in degenerative disc disease; genetic profiles of bone tumours; stem cell therapy.

Orthopaedic biomaterials and tissue engineering :
Bone and tendon tissue engineering; peripheral nerves and microarterial tissue engineering and grafting; intervertebral disc tissue engineering and grafting; new total hip arthroplasty design and joint replacement surgery; bone remodelling after total hip replacement; shape memory alloy and bioactive bone cement in spine surgery; biomaterials of finger fracture fixations; tissue engineering in guided bone and skin regeneration; allograft docking and union properties; biomaterials for cell encapsulations and drug release.

Orthopaedic neurophysiological :
Neurophysiological diagnosis of spinal disorder and spasticity in cerebral palsy; neurotropism and neurotrophism in peripheral nerves; motor and sensory evoked potential during spinal surgery; spinal muscle EMG; functional electrical stimulation in spasticity and paralysis; EMG of low back pain; neurorehabilitation after spinal cord injury.

Departmental Requirements

1) Written presentation of a literature review (at 3 months) and research proposal (at 6 months).
2) Presentation of research seminars quarterly.
Publication of papers is strongly encouraged.
